Grant Hamon MotorSports NT Life Member Inductee
Grant has an extensive history of involvement in various forms of motorsport at various levels, ranging over a 30 year period in the form of sports administrator, competitor and volunteer official.
Starting in Tennant Creek during the 1980's, Grant was a speedway competitor who turned his considerable acumen to club activities which in part saw the Tennant Creek Speedway return to profitability.
Grant was also instrumental in developing and implementing the Tennant Creek Go Kart Grand Prix (through the streets of Tennant Creek). This event was held over a 13 year period and was the recipient of a number of Brolga Tourism awards.
When Grant moved to Darwin, he continued his involvement for some 20 years with the Darwin Karting Association through his son's racing activities. In 2000, Grant was elected to President of the Kart Club, a role he retained until 2008. During his tenure as President, he was instrumental in a large number of facility projects.
Grant became heavily involved in the administrative requirements of the NT Motor Sports Council and through tireless volunteer hours over a five year period, set about restructuring how motorsports at the Hidden Valley Motor Sports Complex were administered.
In 2007, Motorsports NT was officially recognised by the NT Government as the Peak Body for Motorsports in the NT. Grant was instrumental in developing the constitution for the newly formed body and the strategic, business and financial template plans for affiliate clubs.
Since the inception of Motorsports NT with 6 affiliated clubs and approximately 1000 competitors, Motorsports NT has expanded to include 17 affiliated clubs incorporating some 10,000 competitors, officials and crew members. The success of Motorsports NT can be measured by the high respect afforded through the NT Government, as well as National Motorsports bodies.
Since 2007, Grant has lobbied the NT Government to commit to funding various significant facility improvements to all affiliated motor sport clubs totalling 40 million.
